Llechwedd Slate Caverns
This is a great attraction for all the family. There is a deep mine tour, miners tramway and Victorian village. The deep mine tour takes you through winding tunnels and 10 breathtaking caverns. The miners tramway tour takes you on a narrow gauge train which travels on the level deep into the mountainside. The Victorian village includes a bank, village pub, sweet shop and other shops. There is also a museum showing how the slate was moved from the mines down to the sea, from where it was shipped all over the world.
This attraction can be easily visited whilst staying in the Conwy Valley, and is 8 miles (13 km) from Betws-y-Coed as the crow flies (straight line distance). See the routeplanner below for a suggested route and estimated journey time.
