Dolwyddelan Castle was built between about 1210 and 1240 by one of Wales' most powerful medieval rulers, Llywelyn ab Iorwerth ('the Great'). The site fell to English forces in 1283 and was refortified and remodelled by King Edward I. A square stone keep remains of the castle.

This attraction can be easily visited whilst staying in the Conwy Valley, and is 5 miles (8 km) from Betws-y-Coed as the crow flies (straight line distance). See the routeplanner below for a suggested route and estimated journey time.
